ambassadorsThe mission of the Student Diversity Ambassador Program (DAP) is to transform how all students experience Kennesaw State University by equipping KSU student leaders to advance the mission of the Division of Diverse and Inclusive Excellence of creating an inclusive, welcoming, and equitable learning and working community at Kennesaw State. Additionally, Ambassadors will engage the Kennesaw State student community by providing programming and discussion designed to heighten awareness around social responsibility and societal change.

Positions

The Division of Diverse and Inclusive Excellence is looking for 16 Student Diversity Ambassadors contribute to a sense of belonging and how community is experienced at Kennesaw State University by facilitating the engagement in diverse and inclusive discourse. Each campus (Marietta and Kennesaw) will have Student Diversity Ambassadors who will represent the Division of Diverse and Inclusive Excellence.

The Division of Diverse and Inclusive Excellence invites students to apply for the new cohort of Student Diversity Ambassadors for 2022-2023.

Eligibility

Applicants must be full-time students at the time of their application and in academic good standing with a 2.75 GPA or higher, at the start fall 2022.

Work Commitment

ambassadors DAPThe Student Ambassadors will:

  • Serve as a student representative for the Division of Diverse and Inclusive Excellence.
  • Attend all required general meetings and trainings.
  • Develop valuable, marketable interpersonal skills such as conflict resolution, teamwork, leadership, and cultural astuteness.
  • Learn about Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility concepts and strategies.
  • Expand understanding of multiple, intersecting identities including but not limited to race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, gender, ability, religious affiliation, and how they impact lived experience.
  • Raise awareness around social responsibility and societal change among peers.
  • Build a community amongst fellow Ambassadors that is supportive and empowering.

Award

Students who are selected will be awarded a $100 stipend each month for the academic year that they serve and earn a diversity and inclusion micro credential.

Requirements

  • Diversity Ambassadors are students who are organized, resourceful, responsible, and flexible.
  • Diversity Ambassadors are chosen based on their interpersonal, academic, and leadership skills, along with their campus involvement.
  • Diversity Ambassadors must maintain a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative grade point average.
  • Diversity Ambassadors must also be in good academic and conduct standing with the University.
  • Diversity Ambassadors must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours at KSU by the beginning of the fall 2022 semester.

To Apply

  • The online application will open Monday, December 6, 2021, and is due Monday, January 31, 2022, at 11:59 pm.
  • Applications include:
    • An updated resume that includes campus and community involvement.
    • Letter of recommendation from KSU faculty or staff.
    • An official transcript sent via campus mail to the Division of Diverse and Inclusive Excellence, Mail Drop #2702.
  • Interviews will take place the week of February 7-11, 2022, by appointment. Final selections and announcements will be made Friday, February 18, 2022.

Retreat

All selected Ambassadors will attend the DAP Retreat Saturday, February 26, 2022, 9 am - 4 pm, to get to know each other and become familiar with the objectives of the program.

Diversity Ambassador Training Sessions

  • New Ambassadors will attend training sessions (ISD: 2001: Introduction to Diversity and Social Justice or alternate training session) during the second half of the Spring semester that they are selected as ambassadors.
  • The sessions are designed for students to build skills and knowledge base around concepts of class, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, cultural competency, conflict resolution, and facilitation.
  • Ambassadors must enroll and commit to attending all weekly training sessions during the second quarter of the Spring semester (March 14 through April 25, 2022).
  • Ambassadors will earn Emerging Diversity Leader or Global Disc micro credential upon completing the training sessions.

Research Project

During the 2022-2023 academic year, Ambassadors will have the opportunity to engage in a group project around a topic related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access, to be presented during annual university symposiums.

Commitment and Timing

The Student Diversity Ambassador Program is a tremendous opportunity. It is expected that Ambassadors attend all training course sessions and retreat dates. The unique nature of the training and group dialogue experience requires a commitment to learning and considerable time and effort. See section below for important dates to remember.
